Cleansing and Caring for your Crystals

Whenever you purchase our healing crystals or crystal jewelry, the first thing Erin does is sage cleanse and Reiki infuse your new piece with a custom Affirmation for powerful, targeted energy. Each order also includes a Crystal Properties card and an Affirmation card for later reference. Saying your Affirmation while wearing your crystals boosts their energy and effectiveness even more.

Over time you may discern your crystal losing some of its energy and effectiveness. This is due to environmental strain and other effects. Cleansing restores the crystal to its original vibrancy.

If you’ve looked online about cleansing your crystals, you may have seen several different options, and that may have confused you as to which on is the “right one.” In this blog post, we share several options for cleansing your crystals, plus the detailed cleansing process that Erin uses for her own collection and all of your crystals that she sends out to you.

4 Ways to Cleanse your Crystals, Stones, and Crystal Jewelry

  1. Cleanse in running water. This method only works for crystal with a Mohs hardness of 6 or higher otherwise you will damage your crystal over time.

  2. Put into salt water or into a dish of salt. Salt is a good cleanser (especially pink Himalayan sea salt) but some crystals scratch easily, and salt is naturally abrasive, so use the same rule of Mohs hardness + 6 or more.

  3. Bury the crystals in the ground. This is great for lower chakra crystals (red, brown, and black). Those crystals are especially connected with earth energy.

  4. Cleanse with Sage smoke. This is called smudging. It’s the method I personally use because it works for ALL crystals and is simple and easy.

You can also cleanse your home with this same technique. It’s also a great method to create your own Sacred Space.

How do you stop the smoke after burning sage? Here’s Erin’s answer:

Traditionally the sage smoke would be allowed to subside on its own.

For that reason, if I'm just cleansing my crystals or a jewelry order, I use just a single leaf so that it can burn itself all the way out.

If I'm cleansing a large area, then I'll use the smudge stick, in which case I

  1. let it burn itself out

  2. put the smudge inside a mug, which helps it stop smoking faster (reduces oxygen)

  3. or if I really need it to go out quickly for some reason, I can put a little water on it. That's not ideal, since it dampens the other leaves, but I totally understand the safety-first issue too.

Not sure when to cleanse your crystals?

Cleanse your crystals whenever you feel their energy lose clarity or strength. After cleansing, you can reset the original Affirmation or any other of your choosing. This will reprogram your crystal and prepare it for continued healing.
