How to Clean and Reuse Your Crystal Roller Bottles for Maximum Longevity

If you're a fan of crystal-infused essential oil blends, you know how powerful and transformative these roller bottles can be. But after you've enjoyed your blend, what's next? One of the most common questions I get from my readers and customers is: "Can I wash the crystals from your rollers and reuse them in new blends?" The answer is a resounding "Absolutely, Yes!" In this guide, I'll walk you through the simple steps to clean your crystal roller bottles effectively so you can reuse them again and again.

Why Cleaning Your Crystal Roller Bottles is Important

Over time, carrier oils and essential oils can leave residues on both the bottle and the crystals, affecting the quality of your blends. Proper cleaning ensures that your new blends maintain their intended potency and that your crystals remain energetically vibrant.

Step-by-Step Guide to Cleaning Your Crystal Roller Bottles:

  1. Gather Your Supplies:

  2. Clean the Crystals and Roller Bottle:

    • Carefully remove the crystals from the roller bottle.

    • Wash the crystals and the bottle with the natural soap and warm water. A single drop of soap is usually sufficient.

    • Rinse thoroughly and pat the crystals dry with a soft cloth.

  3. Sterilize the Bottle:

    • To remove any remaining carrier oil residue, boil the glass bottle (without the roller ball or cap, as they may warp).

    • Allow the bottle to cool completely before reassembling.

Choosing the Right Carrier Oil:

When making new blends, it's important to select a carrier oil that complements your crystals. I always recommend fractionated coconut oil for roller blends.

Most carrier oils last for only 3-6 months unrefrigerated or 12-24 months when refrigerated. I’ve had experiences where they started to go bad even sooner, so this is important to keep in mind.

Fractionated Coconut Oil is ideal for rollerballs because it doesn’t solidify at room temperature, like virgin coconut oil. The fractionation process also gives a longer shelf-life than virgin or raw oils. Read more about carrier oils here.

When making roller blends, always make sure to use crystals that are safe to store in liquids.

Pro Tip: Make sure you’re using Safe Crystals

Be sure to use only safe crystals in your blends—those that are undyed, untreated, and safe to store in liquids. If you're unsure, check out my Safety Video where I cover everything you need to know about crystal safety in essential oils.
